This is Japan’s beloved Genmaicha tea, grounded into powder! It has a pleasant roasted aroma and a sweet butter flavour with hints of peanut.
It was created for cooking and baking, and is delicious mixed with dairy or vegetable drinks. Its possibilities are limitless.
Genmaicha (玄 米 茶) is a traditional Japanese tea that has been growing in popularity in recent years. Genmaicha, which means ‘brown rice tea’, is a combination of Japanese green tea and roasted rice. Although called Genmaicha, white “mocha” rice is generally used to create the mix. This is due to the fragrant aroma that white rice develops when roasting.
After steaming, drying and roasting, rice is traditionally combined with Bancha tea in a 1:1 ratio, although this ratio may change depending on the taste of the artisan who creates it.
The pleasant toasted flavour also reminds many people of the popcorn.
